![]() In that way, he was a bit like Hardin himself, though the iciness in Guildenstern’s eyes on the occasions he'd shown himself before told Hardin of one major difference: Guildenstern cared nothing for those he sacrificed to his manuevers. Romeo Guildenstern had crossed their path before, and Hardin knew that he was more dangerous than many of the cardinal's followers, for he was cold and calculating rather than a hot-blooded fanatic, and would not move unless he had a certain plan of attack that left little up to chance. Hardin was not certain how many of their number remained alive besides those with him now in the small plaza just outside the Bardorba family chapel, for the Crimson Blades had already slaughtered many of the brethren at Guildenstern's instruction. Or perhaps it was as Hardin had suspected for a very long time, and the cardinal truly had no loyalties outside his own zealous hatred of Müllenkamp.Įither way, their plans were quickly becoming unravelled at the seams. Neither the king's men nor the VKP would strike openly with the duke's family held as hostages - they should have had the duke himself, had the man not taken an unexpected holiday to his other holdings - but apparently the cardinal was more bold. He'd planned for every eventuality, or so he'd thought. It's mostly action/adventure using background laid out in Burning Bridges and the rest of the fics. Except maybe where Hardin was at at the point in his life where he agreed to take over the Duke's manor, kill the hostages, and kidnap a child. I'm not sure why, except that it's very obviously a "behind the scenes" fic for the game's intro, and maybe I thought it didn't say anything new?īecause it doesn't, really. When I was looking through my VS fic files to try to compile all the Sydney/Hardin stories, I came across this file that I wrote ages ago, and which I don't think I ever posted anywhere.
